How to Swap Tokens on Solana

Complete guide to your first SPL token swap. From wallet setup to confirmation in under two minutes.

What you need before you start

To swap tokens on Solana you need three things: a Solana wallet, some SOL for gas fees, and a website or app that supports SPL token swaps. KingSwap handles the third requirement — you bring the wallet and SOL. Total setup time is under five minutes if you have never used Solana before.

SOL is the native asset of the Solana network. You need a small amount of it (usually under $1) to pay transaction fees. Without SOL in your wallet, you cannot send, receive, or swap any SPL tokens — even if you already hold those tokens. Make sure you always keep a small SOL reserve.

Step 1 — Install a Solana wallet

Phantom is the most popular choice. Download from phantom.app for the browser extension, iOS, or Android. Solflare and Backpack are equally good alternatives. Create a new wallet, save the 12-word recovery phrase offline, and set a strong password. Never share the recovery phrase with anyone — not even someone claiming to be support.

Step 2 — Fund your wallet with SOL

Buy SOL on any centralized exchange (Coinbase, Kraken, Binance) and withdraw it to your wallet address. Send a small test amount first to confirm the address is correct. Once the SOL arrives, you can also swap SOL for any other SPL token directly on KingSwap.

Step 3 — Connect your wallet to KingSwap

Click Connect Wallet in the top right corner. A wallet list appears — choose Phantom, Solflare, or Backpack. Approve the connection in the popup. Your truncated address appears in the header when the connection is established.

Step 4 — Select the tokens

In the "You pay" field, select the token you want to swap from. In the "You receive" field, select the token you want to receive. The modal groups tokens by category — Native, Stablecoins, DeFi, Liquid Staking, Memecoins, DePIN, and Bridged. Use the search to find any token by name or symbol.

Step 5 — Set slippage

Slippage is the maximum price difference you accept between order submission and execution. Default is 0.5%. For major pairs like SOL/USDC, 0.5% is fine. For memecoins, use 1-5%. For freshly launched tokens with low liquidity, use 5% or higher. Higher slippage increases the chance of execution but may result in a worse rate.

Step 6 — Enter the amount and click Swap

Type the amount of the input token. The "You receive" field updates in real time showing the expected output. Click Swap and approve the transaction in your wallet. The swap settles in under two seconds. You can verify the transaction on Solscan by clicking your wallet address or checking the signature.

Common mistakes to avoid

Not keeping SOL for gas. If you swap all your SOL into another token, you will not be able to send, swap, or move anything until you fund the wallet again. Always keep at least 0.01 SOL.
Setting slippage too low. Transactions fail if the price moves outside your slippage tolerance. For volatile tokens, use higher slippage.
Swapping into a scam token. Always verify the mint address on Solscan before swapping. Check if the token has freeze authority or if the liquidity is locked.
Approving unlimited token spend. Some dApps request unlimited approval to spend your tokens. KingSwap never does this — you sign one specific transaction per swap.

Why KingSwap

KingSwap routes every swap through multiple Solana DEXs (Raydium, Orca, Meteora, Phoenix, Jupiter) and picks the best combined route. That means you get a better rate than swapping on any single DEX. We charge zero platform fees. You only pay the Solana network fee, typically under $0.01.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a swap take on Solana?

Most swaps confirm in under 2 seconds. Solana block time is approximately 400 milliseconds.

What is the minimum amount to swap?

There is no minimum. You can swap any amount as long as you have enough SOL for gas (usually under $0.01).

Can I swap without SOL?

No. You need SOL in your wallet to pay the transaction fee, even if you are swapping other SPL tokens.

What if my swap fails?

Common causes: slippage too low, insufficient SOL for gas, or low liquidity on the output token. Increase slippage, add SOL, or try a smaller amount.

Do I need KYC?

No. KingSwap is non-custodial and requires no registration, no email, and no KYC.

What fees does KingSwap charge?

Zero platform fees. You only pay the Solana network fee, typically under $0.01 per swap.

Can I swap any SPL token?

Yes. Paste any Solana mint address into the token selector to swap long-tail tokens.
